Welcome to HCYS

Huerfano County Youth Services (HCYS) provides area at-risk youth with the education, community service opportunities, and positive adult role modeling necessary to create a community of healthy, self-sufficient young adults. We utilize adult volunteers and our numerous collaborations to provide innovative and visionary programs that will have a long lasting impact.

HCYS is a six year old, community-based, non-profit, structured youth services program. At present, HCYS remains the only early intervention service in this county for at-risk youth who exhibit early symptoms of delinquency, drug and alcohol use, anti-social behavior, depression, repeated difficulties in school, family abuse and other dysfunctional behaviors.

HCYS is dedicated to encouraging at-risk youth to make healthy choices. Through consistent programs that emphasize resistance and crime prevention, we can begin that process. We assist the youth in gaining valuable life skills using the theory of experiential learning, increase their academic success, encourage community involvement and promote healthy behavior among our at-risk youth. Your support can help make this happen. By providing positive volunteer adult role models who are willing to “guide” at-risk youth through the development of learning to make healthy choices, we can begin the process of change.

In addition, we hope that as youth begin to learn to make healthier choices we can encompass the entire family in an “awakening” process. As a result of continuous positive reinforcement from caring adults and service providers for both the at-risk youth and their families we see the potential to establish the skills necessary to become self-sustaining members of their community, thus “breaking the cycle”.
