. : The CREW

Creative Righteous Educated little Women

The CREW—Creative Righteous Educated Little Women— meet once a week for two hours and are engaged in activities designed to enhance and strengthen their social and life skills. Personal and social responsibility is discussed and encouraged, as is participation in community service, current events, and positive youth behavior. The facilitators have adopted and utilize established, research based life skills curriculum, that incorporate activities designed to enhance their self esteem.

The CREW participates in a variety of experiential opportunities. Recently the La Veta CREW attended the Safari Nights at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, saw a movie and had dinner at Noodles in Colorado Springs. The Walsenburg CREW went to the Nutcracker Ballet at the Denver Ballet, the Avenue Grille for dinner and the movie Happy Feet. Community Services is a big component of our program. During Christmas, the girls put together 35 gift boxes of food and helped the volunteer fire department with their Toys for Tots Christmas project.

CREW members get to experience the responsibilities and hardships of having to take care of a baby 24/7. The girls receive instruction preparing themselves for the responsibilities of caring for Nevaeh or Elijah Miguel our boy and girl Real Care Babies. Highlighted in the preparation is newborn care, responsibilities of parenthood, understanding health and healthy attitudes, and time management. Our next event will be a “Night At the Museum” at the Denver Museum on May 18th-19th for twelve of our girls. The others will participate in a planned activity just for them.
